{"id":935,"date":"2013-04-12T19:27:34","date_gmt":"2013-04-13T03:27:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bayesianinvestor.com\/blog\/?p=935"},"modified":"2023-02-12T10:06:56","modified_gmt":"2023-02-12T18:06:56","slug":"charity-for-corporations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bayesianinvestor.com\/blog\/index.php\/2013\/04\/12\/charity-for-corporations\/","title":{"rendered":"Charity for Corporations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In his <a href=\"http:\/\/slatestarcodex.com\/2013\/04\/05\/investment-and-inefficient-charity\/\">talk<\/a> last week, Robin Hanson mentioned an apparently suboptimal level of charitable donations to for-profit companies.<\/p>\n<p>My impression is that some of the money raised on Kickstarter and Indiegogo is motivated by charity.<\/p>\n<p>Venture capitalists occasionally bias their investments towards more &#8220;worthy&#8221; causes.<\/p>\n<p>I wonder whether there&#8217;s also some charitable component to people accepting lower salaries in order to work at jobs that sound like they produce positive externalities.<\/p>\n<p>Charity for profitable companies isn&#8217;t likely to become a popular concept anytime soon, but that doesn&#8217;t keep subsets of it from becoming acceptable if framed differently.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In his talk last week, Robin Hanson mentioned an apparently suboptimal level of charitable donations to for-profit companies.
