What puzzles me is why Republicans think they should be considered opponents of a culture of death. I haven&#8217;t heard any leading Republicans criticize <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Leon_Kass\">Leon Kass<\/a>, who recently served as chair of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/President%27s_Council_on_Bioethics\">President&#8217;s Council on Bioethics<\/a> under Bush, for statements such as:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nthe finitude of human life is a blessing for every individual, whether he knows it or not.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>See <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenewatlantis.com\/archive\/1\/kass.htm\">this article<\/a> for a longer version of his argument that people ought to die.<br \/>\nI wonder if what Ponnuru really means is that the Democrats are a party of unnatural death, whereas the Republicans are a party of natural death.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ramesh Ponnuru, a somewhat respectable conservative, has published a book titled &#8220;The Party of Death: The Democrats, the Media, the Courts, and the Disregard for Human Life&#8221;.
